Post #14 I'm Not Telling You Again!!!!

This is a letter explaining what he/she will do if the particular person goes near their drive way. I can  connect to it, member's in my family owns a drive way. It is often blocked in the summer months by other people. Angry but respectful they decide to talk to whom ever owns the vehicle parked in their area. On one occasion a person disrespected my aunt,  instead of retaliating my aunt  wrote a letter similiar to the one shown. Serious and threating she warned the person to back away or she will scratch the vehicle. A day later around the same time the vehicle was no where to be seen. This was a unique find and that is why I chose it.

This violin creates nostalgia for me, the violin reminds me of when I was involved in an opera at my old grammar school. I have been playing for four years now and unfortunately I do not own one. When I look at other's who play and who are professionals, it brings back memories of my friends and I. We made music together and I cared about it passionately, also I had the opportunity to be on television. That was an amazing experience that I will never forget, at times I visit my old school and walk the halls and everything comes back to me. The four string violin has created positive thoughts that fire's up my soul when I feel lonely or upset.

Marlene Dumas would be considered to be an postmodern artist, in her artworks she combines human emotion to her pieces of art. She uses postmodern visual strategies to explain and describe what is present without speaking. Strategies such as text and image, appropriation, and hybridity complements her work. In "The Woman of Algiers" Marlene Dumas uses her creation of art to make a conceptual statement that is clearly shown. It gives the viewer their perspective on her art. This also relates to the feelings and expressions of its viewer's. Marlene Dumas is considered to be an postmodern artist.

Post#11 Marlene Dumas " The Woman of Algiers's"

The artist of “The Woman of Algiers's " in the year of 2001  is Marlene Dumas, she was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1953 and currently lives and work in Amsterdam. The artwork is based on a photograph that was shown in a French newspaper by the name of L' Express.  Marlene Dumas used oil on canvas to create the work of art. I chose this work of art because I found the image to be quite unique and interesting. In this artwork a naked woman is held back by two men, her female areas are censored by black rectangles. In a quote by Marlene Dumas she stated, “I am dealing with emotions that everyone feels. But I'm always conscious of this tension between knowing that you are making an object, a physical thing, and being aware that you are also referring to things [the emotions] that cannot actually be painted. If the painting works, that tension is in there ". Her statement is what sets the tone while she created the artwork this is why I chose this piece of art from Marlene Dumas.

POST #10 St.Peter's Basillica Vatican City

This is a sign from Basilica Di San Pietro in Vaticano City. This picture was taken by a person on the inter net by the user name of Pickle Deli Square, this photo shows that women who wear blouses that show their cleavage and midriffs including men that expose their chest were not allowed to enter the city. Only women and men who wore shirts that were not revealing were allowed to enter the city. I chose this photo because there should not be a restriction on what someone wears, it is their choice and that it is a cliche because the city wants people to be a certain way and that is wrong. People should be free and have the right to choose what they wear and how they wear it.

POST # 9 "Forget Me Not" curated by Jan Petry

This painting that was curated by Jan Petry, it has some of the postmodern strategies such as re- contextualization. In the 19th century New Englanders engaged in painting themselves and members in their family as well. In that time period painting people or themselves was a source of status, people liked to look at paintings that showed statesmen and generals. This relates to re-contextualization because artist created  portrait's that defined how life was like, and by using those elements to design something new was part of re - contextualization as well as appropriation.

My first quarter of art in high school was not what I thought it would be. I anticipated it to be all about drawing and learning about colors and shapes, but it was really about learning the many principles and elements of art and how they made up an artwork. I enjoyed participating in projects and activities such as the exquisite corpse and the accordion book, I was challenged by using all the elements and principles of art into a composition. I see art differently, I view artist's work as something new and unique. Art not only express the artist's emotions but it can connect to the world. Blogs was a transition from regular work which made it hands- on so students can see how art can be represented in numerous of ways. Viewing and judging art is important, if one person does not like a particular work of art they are likely to talk negative and dislike the art. I was taught various things in art this quarter but one thing I must say gaining the knowledge and enjoying doing it is what made this quarter good.
